As a graduate of Secondary Technical School (SPŠ) of Transport in Česká Třebová, he joined the former ČSD (Czechoslovak State Railways) as train dispatcher in 1988. From 1997, he worked as Technical Group Manager and then Technical & Economic Deputy Chief of Česká Třebová railway station. He subsequently relocated to Pardubice, where he gradually worked as Economic Deputy Chief of Commercial & Operational Directorate (OPŘ), Head of Financial & Economic Department, and again as Economic Deputy Chief of the local Railway Infrastructure Administration (SDC). From 2006, he was Director of the Office of Deputy Director General for Economics, and after leaving České dráhy (ČD), he held the same position at Správa železnic, where he became the Director of Purchase and Public Procurement Department in November 2011. From 1 July 2016, he was Deputy Director General for Rail Operability, and from 23 March 2018, he has been the Director General of Správa železnic.
